RITES offer communication systems for power transmission networks. Power utilities need communication backbone networks that carry all data for power control, tele-protection and telephony in a fast and secure way which can take place via optical fibres, power line carrier (PLC), or microwave links; depending on the need for transmission capacity. These types of transmission systems require high system reliability and availability.
Backbone Networks Optical Fibers
 
fiberThese types of transmission network consist of an optical fiber cable with PDH/SDH line terminal equipment and primary add/drop multiplexers providing access to the network. A large number of different interface cards are available for all power transmission applications. Optical communication systems from RITES offer a number of advantages for the power utilities such as easy remote configuration and special features when “live” networks must be extended.
  Microwave Links
 
microwavelinkMicrowave links are the alternative solutions to optical transmission. RITES provides equipment in all standard frequency bands, and detailed design of each section is carried out taking land topography, distance between substations, antenna location, and climate into consideration.
Network Supervision
Network Management System (NMS) or Element Management System (EMS) is available from RITES. These systems enable the administrators to supervise the communication system by integrating them with all communication and control subsystems, and in this way provide the controller with the necessary information in order to manage sections of the power networks. Constant monitoring of quality parameters supplies data for carrying out preventive maintenance and there by ensuring maximum network performance.

radioPLC (Power Line Carrier) unit is an alternative to the two above-mentioned ways of transmitting data. The existing high voltage lines are used for carrying data and voice signals for several hundred kilometers, without the need for repeaters and with speeds ranging from 50 b/s up to 64 Kb/s. Remote configuration and fault location of transmission parameters can be easily done from a desktop PC.
Radio Communication System
radio_towerOften power network operators require radio communication facilities for the service and maintenance people that are working along the power lines. We are well experienced in providing dedicated radio communication systems for this type of application, and able to offer them in a large variety of frequency bands. A central digital switch unit connects speech and data. The controller monitors incoming calls on a PC and responds according to the calls priority. Among these system facilities are selective calls to individuals and group calls for instance work teams. In order to optimize radio network performance, the controller can monitor vital parameters in the base stations and in the antenna systems from the Network Control Centre (NCC).
